Faculty Guide to Streaming Media

Streaming Video Services

Film graphicPennWest University Libraries offers licensed streaming videos Academic Video Online (AVON), Films on Demand, Digital Theatre+, Kanopy, and Swank. Availability fall into three basic categories:

  • Full access subscriptions Academic Video Online (AVON) and Digital Theatre+: all titles are available for immediate use in in-person and online classes.
  • A la carte collections through Kanopy and Swank: faculty may request purchases, which are most often a one-year license, of streaming titles using the Faculty Streaming Video request form. If a titles is not available on one of our platforms, we will still attempt to secure access, but this will likely take longer.
  • Automated "patron driven acquisition" in Films on Demand (request form not required). Three 30-second views of a title will automatically trigger a 1-year license purchase.

Select a streaming provider (left menu) to learn more. Search for content and request titles for classroom use. Please direct any questions about locating films to libresources@pennwest.edu or your library liaison.

Allow at least two weeks for processing of film requests. Faculty purchase requests will be evaluated based on need and budget constraints.

For assistance creating links and embedding streaming video content into your D2L courses or for classroom viewing, see this guide for each platform.
