Library Services for Faculty

The Libraries offer research help, library instruction, and support services for PennWest faculty members.

Embedded Librarians

Interested in having a librarian be a part of your course to assist students with research and teach information literacy skills? Embedded librarians do just that - they are "embedded" in your course, whether in person or in D2L, to provide point-of-need access and instruction to students. Librarians can be embedded to the level you feel will be most helpful for students. Some ways we can provide service as embedded librarians include:

  • Instruction - A librarian can provide information literacy instruction for students in the form of a traditional instruction session, scaffolded sessions, or tutorials (video, text-based, or interactive).
  • Course Guides - A librarian can collaborate with you to develop a course-specific guide to assist students with completing course assignments and projects.
  • Research Appointments - Students can schedule one-on-one meetings with a librarian for assistance with research projects.
  • Discussion Boards - Create an "Ask the Librarian" discussion area in D2L where students can ask questions. The librarian will monitor this and answer questions.
  • Announcements - The librarian can create announcements in D2L to inform students of useful and relevant resources to help with their assignments.

A librarian can work with you to determine what your needs may be and how we can help support students for success in your course.
