Video Linking and Embedding

Choose the tab of the streaming service provider below for linking instructions.

AVON and Films on Demand can also be embedded, allowing students to view the video directly in D2L without re-authenticating. (see D2L Embed tabs below). 

1. To get a link to an individual video, locate the video and click the share tab near the top of the screen.

2. Copy the permalink (Embed code will not work in D2L). 

3. Properly formatted links will start with https://video.alexanderstreet.com/p/, follwed by an alphanumeric code (e.g., https://video.alexanderstreet.com/p/mq73RpQxn)

Use this guide to create links to videos in Films on Demand. For use in D2L,  you may also Embed Films on Demand videos. This will allow students to view the film and D2L and they will not need to re-authenticate. 

1. Films on Demand provides direct links to complete films and individual segments. First, select the portion of the film you want to use and then click the share button on the bottom left.

2. After clicking the share button, select Embed/Link and copy the link.


Do you use a lot of Films on Demand videos?

Create an account on Films on Demand to create custom segments and playlists.

1. Create an account by selecting “Your Profile” and then “New User? Sign up”.

2. Once your account is set up, you can save titles in playlists and create custom segments that start and end exactly where you want.

1. To obtain a link for an individual video, locate the video and click the share tab.

2. Copy the Link (embed code does not work in D2L).

Use these direct links for direct access to PennWest licensed films on the Swank platform. Do not alter these links; they will work as is for both on and off campus use.

Embedding videos in D2L allows students to view the video directly in D2L and it eliminates the need to re-authenticate to view the video.

1. Open a content page in D2L to begin the embed process.

Option 1 - Embed a video into an existing content page/file - open the file and click Edit HTML.

Option 2 – Create a new file - click Upload/Create and Create a File in the Content section of your course.

2.  With the existing or new content page open, click the Insert Stuff icon and select Alexander Street Press from the list.

3.  Search and locate the film title (it may be helpful to have Academic Video Online(AVON) open in a separate window to get the exact film title to enter in the search.) 

  • Choose medium or large embed size (either works).

4. Click Insert

5. Enter a title and save and close.

Embedding videos in D2L allows students to view the video directly in D2L and it eliminates the need to re-authenticate to view the video.

1. Open a content page in D2L to begin the embed process.

2.  With the existing or new content page open, click the Insert Stuff icon and select Films on Demand from the list.

3.  In the search box, enter the film OR segment title (it may be helpful to have Films on Demand open in a separate window to get the exact film title or segment title to enter in the search.)

4. Locate the correct film or segment from the list and select Embed. From the dropdown, select Embed Small, Embed Medium, or Embed Large (do not use “Record URL”).
