Information & Updates for Faculty using PennWest Libraries Resources

Linking to Library Resources

Permalinks (also called stable links, persistent URLs, etc) are URLs that point directly to articles, ebooks, videos, and other materials in library databases. By placing these links in your D2L course you can easily direct your students to required course content.

Follow the steps on this guide to create permalinks to library resources. Unlike most webpages, the URL in your browser address bar will most often not work when linking to library resources.

EBSCO Discovery Service (OneSearch)

OneSearch includes most library resources on a single platform and is therefore the easiest way to create permalinks. Alternatively, if the item exists on a different platform, you may follow the platform specific (e.g., JSTOR, Proquest) instructions provided on this guide.

Create permalinks in OneSearch and other EBSCO databases:

  1. Locate the item you wish to link to and click the title link to view the full record.
  2. Use the Tools menu on the right to display the permalink. Click the Permalink to highlight and copy it.

JSTOR articles and eBook Chapters

  1. Locate the item you wish to link to on JSTOR.
  2. Click the item title from the result list.
  3. Copy the "Remote Access URL".
