Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and COVID-19 have all been caused by a coronavirus. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provides information on these and other common human coronaviruses on its website. Statista has compiled a dossier on COVID-19. This dossier presents the most important and latest statistics about the current outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 (formally known as 2019-nCoV) which originated in Wuhan, Hubei province, China. The dossier starts with an overview of the major virus outbreaks in the past, and the current development of the coronavirus COVID-19 across the world. Statistics on cases and deaths by country, development over time, and public opinion are also included, as well as links to other statistics and dossiers on COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website provides valuable information on COVID-19. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China. The spread of COVID-19 is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation. The CDC will provide updated information as it becomes available, in addition to updated guidance.


The CDC also provides specific information for healthcare professionals on COVID-19.
