The publisher, author, and/or another party may impose restrictions on an ebook or ebook collection. These restrictions often determine who can access the ebook, how it can be accessed or used, and/or if/how it can be downloaded or printed. The following are some of the common conditions you need to be aware of when accessing library ebooks.
- Required Account - Some vendors may require you to create an account before you are able to download anything.
- Downloadable Portion - The amount of an ebook you are able to print, copy, or download is typically set by the publisher. Some allow the entire book to be downloaded at one time while others specify a number of pages, chapter(s), or a percentage of the book during a given time (e.g., per login or per day). Some only permit online viewing.
- Loan Period - When downloading an entire ebook is possible, the length of time you may keep the book is set by the library. After that time period expires, the book becomes inaccessible and must be downloaded again to be viewed.
- Transfer to Another Device - Some books must be read on the device onto which they were downloaded. To read the book on another device, the book would have be downloaded again. Some vendors may require you to setup an account to be able to view their books on more than one device.
